W124- Removing the Center Console
This is not very hard at all, but you will have to take some caution not to break any parts in the process. On the W124 the center console is held in place by one screw in the rear and two nuts in the front part. You will only need a 10mm socket and a screwdriver.

Start by removing the piece of carpet in your center console. It is just pushed into place. This will expose the rear end screw.

Open the ashtray and remove the chrome inlet.
This will expose access to two screws holding the ashtray assembly in place.
Remove these screws and take out the ashtray assembly.

Carefully push a little back and pull up on the burl wood behind the gearlever and window switches. The burl wood should snap out easily, and can then be lifted up in the rear and pulled gently out from the front where the ashtray was.
