Newly acquired MB W126 300SE After a few acquintance with W115, W124 as a weekend/ hobby car. I finally got myself in to the S Class league. The W126 300SE which I was very fond of since young.
My first encounter with the W126 was back in 92 where the family was taking the Hotel's 300SE to the port in Hong Kong. My recollection was blur but I remembered was a very comfortable yet quiet car. I just came back from UK now and waiting to start my new job in Singapore a few months later. Hence I was out scouting for a weekender/ project to play around with. after a few visit to some dishonest car dealers and some badly mantained sample. I found myself this Black/ Grey locally assembled 300SE manufactured in 1991. The car was pretty much done up by the previous owner, has clocked 240k kms but engine still purls like a cat. The transmission was smooth. The car sits quite low down with new suspensions and a set of 17 inch AMG Monoblock.(refurbished) The interior is quite nice with refurbished seats and recent leather interior. All the switches are working including the troublesome windows and electric seats. Nevertheless this is a 18 years old car and wear and tear signs are visible on door cards and steering. The wood itself is of Burl Walnut but has some cracks on the main console. The varnish also seems to be fading. anyway, after a few haggles and I collected the car two days later. Couple of things needs doing and here goes 1. Removed the original tinting (gold and bubbling) and replace it with a Black tint. 2. Refurbish the interior wood panelling 3. Repaint the door cards and centre console plastics 4. Laying of new carpets? 5. A service with oil and filter change. that is the immediate plan. Any comments are most welcome. Need some details on getting the wood restoration. here are some pictures of my car ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Newly acquired MB W126 300SE hi there ckbenz, i'm sure, it's worth the wait afterall...and being a 91 make, you've picked an almost perfect unit. congratulations!
just to share, i once refurbished a portion of my run down interior wood panel of the centre console with the help of a workshop guy. he dismantled and worked on the panel, glued a cracked portion together and then sprayed a few layers of clear coats on it...at least for me, the end result is satisfying as it cost me almost nothing. maybe you should try washing the carpets if they're still good... do post a few pictures of the engine... ![]() |
