18" or 19" Hello brothers of the merc,
I am contemplating whether to change my wheels to 18" or 19". I think the biggest factor will be the rubber. I can see there are alot of options for 18" but what about 19"? Do most shops carry 19" rubber in their stocks? Will there be options to choose for 19" rubber? What about the price comparison between 18" and 19" rubber?..Any sifu out there please bestow upon me your knowledge.. Thanks bros.. ![]() |

Re: 18" or 19" Hi bro habub, i probably can help you with your dilemma. First we must talk about numbers. You must calculate whether the diameter of new tyres is the same as the old one, either it fits into the wheel arch or not. Click on this link and enter the size of the original tyre and the new one.
Tyre size calculator Then to roughly determine whether the new tyre and rim will hit your wheel arch or not, and also whether it will hit your chassis when turning or not, click on this link. It is best to go to the shop, mount the new tyre + rims on your car, to see wheter it fits or not, and turn your steering wheel left and right. Check to see if the tyre hits the chasis or not. Calculator As for the pricing, i changed my tyre at ASO TYRE SHOP near Jalan Gombak, or Jalan Ipoh i think, please google the map. I changed my 20" tyre to Dunlop Direzza DZ102, thai made (245/40 R20) for rm750 per donut, and 18" tyre Continental Conti Max Contact 5, malaysia made (245/40 R18), around rm500++ per donut. 19" tyre's price should fall between those two prices. You can get new budget tyre as well, but i dont bother to ask the shopkeeper about it. Kedai Tayar ASO For me, 18" is the best, because there are a lot of original used 18" merc rims around. Just my 2 cents. ![]() Call me at 013 3791 147 if you need somebody to ride shotgun to the tyre shop. ![]() |

Re: 18" or 19" *Your E280 will definately look absolutely WONDERFUL on a set of 19" in staggered form [1" wider rim at rear]. Replica Vossen rims have some garang designs!
*For less spending you can look to the Korean hi-end tyres like Nexen/Roadstone which are real value-for-ringgit! *Take lots of photos and let us all see the grand transformation results! *Good luck...
