Despite Mabel recent "marriage" with Madeline, Mabel will always be his choice when driving long distance. This is really an upscale car to drive.

Hence, despite receiving many offers to sell this car, I will maintain this car as it's still give me the same pleasure since I bought her 8 years ago..

This car really VOGUE....

Hi, Mabel.

I really agree with you on the power of the 3.2L engine with regards to GH climb. I took my car up once and was really impressed by the torque and power. I overtook many cars too. The handling was really impressive for a "giant" of a car. Haha. Plus, it's still feels comfortable despite taking hard corners. The best thing about it, my wife was in the car too and she even praised the car!

By the way, just to share only. I recently tested my friend's BMW 728i E38. I can sincerely confirm the W140 is a better car overall. It's feels more solid and comfortable. In terms of power delivery, the E38 is slightly better due to the 5-speed gearbox and newer engine. That's the only thing I noticed is better lah. The steering feel for W140 is very light and easy and compared to the E38. Of course, I am not putting down the E38. Please don't get me wrong.

Thanks for your feedback WilliamKhoo!

Luckily mine came with the 722.6 Gearbox and I love it...

I have also test drive the E38 during my one year courting period. In summary I would say the following when comparing between these two great cars...

E38 is a driver's car - feeling the road underneath and have the exact feeling of the behavior of the car on the road

W140 is a rider's car - cruising and have the maximum comfort from the car, without any noises, and no feeling of the bumps and cracks on the road.

Here's a good comments that I picked up from a BMW Forum. It comes from a proud owner who has the pleasure to own both W140 and the E38.

Quote:

I also owned both cars I have to say the w140 is an engineering marvel you cannot compare the two. From the pneumatic doors to the suspension and handling. Contrary to the e38 owning the title for a better handling of a car. The w140 will handle just fine at 130mph, I didnít feel the same doing 120 in my e38 and I have no suspension issues. There might be a slight advantage with the e38 at 80mph and under as itís a lighter car but the w140 is not that far behind, with an overall better handling. The bells and whistles are endless in the S class and they were way ahead of the e38 with all these gadgets, as all these things were introduced in 1991 to the European market and 1992 to the US.

Their ADS system which will hydraulically lock the front shocks upon hard breaking to prevent the front of the car from dipping is just amazing. Reclining rear seats.

Pneumatic doors that will Automatically suck your doors shut as they were real heavy doors.Pneumatic door locks to avoid the clunking noise created by an electrical system.
Cushions on the side of the seats act as barriers that prevent your items falling to the side of the seats, accompanied by a skirt in the back to collect any loose items that may have fallen out of your pockets. Lots of thought went into the making of this vehicle.

Wipers that extended out to the corner of the driver side windshield giving great visibility in foul weather.

A tranny that will pull this 5500lb beast 0-60 in a surprisingly fast speed especially if you have minor modifications.

A stock Bose system in a 92 w140 will take out any stock system that is offered in a 2000 and up e38.

Double panned windows, with sound proof lining through out the entire car, not some cheap sound proofing either this was 1.5 inches thick oil dipped material that hugs the entire car, from under the dash to the rear trunk. Paving the way for other Automotive companies seeking a quieter salon.

Brake Pads can be switched out in the same fashion as the 911's, No need to remove the Calipers, a 5 minute job once the tire is off.

Four piston Ultra high perfromance Calipers biting on each side of the rotor will bring this 2 ton car to a hault without much effort.

The list is long but this car was amazing to ride and own, the e38 by all means is not in the same league.

mabel, is it possible to change the remote casing for a w124 too? if so, where can i do this? i had to buy 2 new remotes which were programmed to my alarm frequency, but i had to make a spare key as a result. my old remote casing with key is still with me. thx for your advice.

Of course you can bro...

Fortunately, W124 remote casing is less complicated. My W124 does not have an immobilizer. Hence any key shops can fix it.

The last time I did mine was in Kota Bharu for my W124.

Here are some references name that has help up our members to solve their car key/alarm issues..

Just in case if your car still cannot start after transferring the chip and circuit board to your new DAS 2 Key casing, you can try to align the key back to the W140 Computer system by doing the following procedure..

1.Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition lock and immediately press remote button for 10 seconds
2.Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition lock.
3. Repeat 1 and 2 another 2 times

Your key should be aligned with the W140 Computer System and ready for use.

Re: Mabel
After 3 years, my remote alarm casing is giving ways. So I replace the DAS 2 key casing which I bought from Steven sometime ago.

One thing I like to share with the team here is whenever you change your DAS 2 Key casing, make sure you also transfer the immobilizer chip including the circuit board to the new casing. Failing to do this will result to your car will not be able to start.

The chip is a black chip that is placed at the led light. All you need to do is transfer this chip together with the circuit board to your new casing and your car will start.

Cost of DAS2 remote casing is only RM 210.

Cost of replacing a new key is RM 1800. You need to order it from Germany.
