The word Boxing Day derived from the conviction of giving money and gifts of usable things to the needy and poor people on the day after Christmas. The name of “Boxing Day” is used after the partitioned of Ireland from Great Britain. No one is exactly known about its origin, its ambiguity among the people but some claims authentically that the origin of the Boxing Day is existed in Roman and early Christen era. Some observed in U.K as a custom or tradition of 19th century Victorians, merchant is collected the Christmas boxes whole the year and distributed it among the less wealthy people day after Christmas day.
Boxing Day is also known as public holiday and secular day. It is observed on 26th December. It is public holyday according to the law created by U.K’s Bank holiday. This day is celebrated almost all over the word where ratio of Christian population is high for instance U.K, Austria, Canada, Germany, Green land, New Zealand and Hong Kong. In these countries people give money and other precious gifts to the people who’s earning are less and their social status is low. These things are also provided to the charitable institutions and other social works organizations. In South Africa public holyday is known as “day of good will”.
Boxing will never come on Sunday. It always comes on working day for example if 26th December comes on Saturday, the day will be on Monday or Tuesday. In many countries it is also known as shopping holiday.

In Malaysia, our Sabahan brother celebrates this day and it's a public holiday in Sabah..
