My mechanic suggest semi sythethic pun sudah OK. No need to flush, unless if you have issue with your GB. Please see another reference thread on Engine flush advice by Dr Gan.

On your last Q, dua2 pun OK brother. For me, I would use synthetic for a new car..i.e from 0-100,000km mileage. 100,000 onward will use semi or as an option mineral based.

The question of whether an old car can use fully synthetic oil is very subjective. Fuly synthetic oil has a better lubrication function and "thinner" compare with the same grade of mineral base oil. If the engine condition is not good then you will experience excessive consumption (need to top up very often). Moreover if the gasket is not in the good condition, you will experience engine oil leaking.

As whether you should flush the engine before using the fully synthetic oil again is depend on how often you change the engine oil (assuming you are using the mineral base oil). If you change the engine oil on schedule and the car is never overheated then it is not necessary to flush engine. Otherwise, you should flush the engine in order to bring a better result.

My mechanic told me that the other factor is the conditioned of the 'rubber element'. The older car usually the rubber element might become harden t/4 'thinner' oil (fully synthetic) may 'evaporate' out thru it.If u don't mind to continously check n top it then it is ok.

If u hav overhaul ur engine n change the necessary parts than fully synthetic is highly recommended.

As whether u shud flush ur engine oil, what i did before is to change to ordinary engine oil first for a short period/distance usage n than change to the fully synthetic.

The engine oil doesn't really evaporate but get burn off in the engine if the piston, valve stem seals and cylinder wall are not in good condition.

when I first got my continental I was so concern about the type of engine oil use. i think if your car is turbo charged car is better to use synthetic oil, for normal engine, mineral oil is good enough, but is no harm to use synthetic oil if you like. Nowadys there are fake oil selling in the market so becareful of what you buy !!!
