I was just checking the service manual and found that the recommended interval for changing the ATF fluid by MB is 50,000km or 3 years! Isn't this a bit too long than usual? Does most owners follow this religiously of shorten the interval a bit?

I would go for Transmission Fluid change Every 2 years or 50,000 km. Your vehicle’s automatic transmission system is designed to transfer power from the engine to the wheels at a consistent level. Transmission fluid is subject to tremendous amounts of heat and wear and it fails over time as the viscosity changes.
• Replaces the friction modifiers of transmission fluid, which are depleted over time.
• Lengthens the life of the seals and clutches.
• Removes the worn clutch material that forms over time.
• Flushes transmission cooler, torque converter and valve body.

Seriously I stick to 40,000 km for my E200 W212 CGI and my C200 W203 Kompressor which gave me good results so far. With the tropical weather here, 40,000 km is already very good. Even for the engine oils, with synthetics, I only goes to 7,500 - 8,000 km only. Just sharing!!

Interesting.... for my 5G-Tronic 722.6 transmissions both in W211 and W220, I change its ATF every 100K km now. It was initially about 160K km, brought down from "sealed for life until kaput..." as suggested by MB before.

As for engine oil, using the MB 229.3 or 229.5 rated fully synthetic oil, my oil and filter changes are at every 15K km. Till today both cars don't require any top-up in between oil changes.

I'm asking whether that ATF brand I saw in a spare part shop in KL any good if anybody have tried it before.

The brand is Ravenol, said to be from Germany and the price is about half of the ori MB ATF. Try to save some cost here since I would need 8 x 1 liter bottles for my car.

Wah.. voltan change ATF at every 100,000km without any issues thus far. So the 50,000km mark recommended by MB manuals should be ok. The manufacturer still knows best.

The 15,000km mark for changing engine oil is also recommended by MB.

The answer given was
1. traffic jam - odometer not moving but engine still running.
2. weather in Malaysia is hot
3. a lot wear on engine components @ 15K

by the way a similar M651 engine on 2014 S212 (wagon) in Europe the oil change interval is @ 25K
