Electri Fan Modification W124 Bro All,
I came across an owner of a w124 yang dah modified main fan from clutch to electric fan. The HP is increased, engine is smoother and get more milage. I asked him if this can be done on an M102 engine and he said no problem, the main task is to cool the radiator. Here's the pic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I browsed a few topic on this on the internet...mix opinion, any comment guys. Thanks Hidzir |

Re: Electri Fan Modification W124 Hi Bro Hidzir,
Thanks for the info. I think it should just be a straight foward modification, as the wiring circuit for a W124 is quite simple. Therefore, it can be done. Other model like the W210 has two types, with or without electric fan. Mine's with. Noti's car without. Keep us updated and I am sure we can DIY. Cheers. KH |

Re: Electri Fan Modification W124 The conversion should be pretty simple.
However, there is something to think about on the dual speed. 1. Low speed when air-con comp is energised and high speed when engine at 95degC 2. Low speed when engine at 85C and High speed when engine 95degC. I think I'll go on arrangement 1. This will reduce the load on compressor and engine will run cooler. NPK |

Re: Electri Fan Modification W124 depends if your car is with the Single Aux fan.Single aux fan is rather noisy when at full speed...the dual aux fans are less noisy.

Re: Electri Fan Modification W124 Dear Bro NPK
It will be a great idea to put electrical fan but the wiring itself is going to be a hassel. Why...the fan will be activated via a thermo switch and how to do that. When I was driving W124, I had that idea but the thermo switch idea made me gave up.

Sorry Bro Fzz,this is easiet part...the difficult part is to ensure that the mounting is strong and as little air leak path as possible. It is difficult to find a fan mounting that fits the W124 radiator nicely. Kena modify but cutting some edges/sides. I will use the same thermoswitch that has been running the magnetic clutch. This switch is design to pull the fan clutch once the set temp is exceeded. By wiring it to a relay, I can then energise the fan(instead of the clutch, which will be remove once the elct fan is fitted) once the set temp is exceeded. I hope to work on this tomorrow with help of Tee. NPK |
