Replacing front shock absorber- Hi everyone,
Just wanna share some picture after di(myself)replacing front absorber w210 E200. I shall not commenting on technical aspect as i am no good in mechanical thingy. My mother once said me and car was just like a mouse starring at steel and metal..blank..haha. The first thing to recognize the top fastener at engine bay and undone all nuts, a washer and rubber bushing. Shock absorber replacement in w210 set up is relatively an easy diy. Then it s time to jack the car and remove the wheel. The top mount will pop down easily. Turn to wheel to the side for an easy access to the bottom nut.Undue the nut and grab the shock absorber off. Replacement with a new pair is vice versa in order. The front pair was bought for rm500(left and right same) ![]() |

Time to invest in a good floor jack ,2 tonnes at least. those MB jacks are good for changing tires but not for working under, I have kena a few times already, car roll forward or backward and fall, resting on the brake disc....all because I was lazy to use the floor jack ![]()

Re: Replacing front shock absorber- Welcome Mabel, the procedure could be done by everyone here, I just took pictures so I shall remember the date of replacement.
Previous ride was kruk kruukk, now it is firmer, a thud with less mechanical transmission to the inside, less nasal dive on heavy braking and quite similar when the car was young. You can probably see the sway bar link and torsion bush in one of the picture- just change 1 week before. She was also gave a chirping sound on hitting bump or sudden change of road level. The sound gone with the new links and bushes. The grease trapped sand but it is ok because no bearing involve for the two parts. |
