When you did the conversion, did you convert the rear axle to 1jz as well? If you are using back your original merc axle, the speedo would not be able to match thus speedo won't be accurate.

Thanks for the info. I didnt convert the axle since it requires extra work and more modification. Still I would really like to install any kind of speedometer/milage (even if the speed is inaccurate) for the sake of servicing due date.(every 5000-7000 km) Please advice..

For your info I used a GPS unit to monitor my exact speed. It does come with a milage indicator but still I prefer if it stays connected to the benz.

I have a friend who owns a 300ce with RB25det who is also using back his original axle with the same problem... speedo not accurate... same goes to me... He added an Apexi RSM to track his speed but still does not get the exact reading... it's all due to the axle ratio.

I'm also facing the same problem thus I have decided to change the back axle to nissan to solve this problem. Will updated you if it works.

Cheers!

Does Apexi RSM provide milage reading? Is it possible to use other electronic mercedes meter (not the mechanical ones that use cables for speedo), add the compatible VSS (vehicle speed sensor) to the axle and just connect? Just need the milage reading..

I'm not too sure bro... or you will have to find another merz axle which have the same ratio with 1jz which is 4.1:1 or else you will never get an accurate reading for your mielage.

Thanks mate..

I think I will stick to the existing axle cause the original 1JZ only give a max speed of 180. 1JZ combine with w124 axle can go up to 230 and counting (I did not try to go faster since I havent finish fixing the mounting and absorber) My friend put it in his Bimmer that have the same gear ratio can only cough out 185 max)

Anyway thanks for replying bro..

I am using a w124 with 1jz. the mechanic modify a 1G speed sensor to the gearbox and works fine with Benz speedometer, Until i change the ECU and increase boost, the power twist and break the sensor and trash my stock Benz rear axle.

benz axle has longer ratio, giving me a top of 250+kmph, but doesnt do good in 0-100. The gear is weak. It actually broke into smaller pieces in the housing. this is my 2nd diffetial, and started giving me problem, guess the gear starting to broke.
Im still looking for someone to change it to Japanese car rear axle.
Any recomend who can done it? Maybe 2jz rear axle to W124.

Hi xero_lee,

It seems like it happen the same to me. If you can source a 2jz or a 1jz axle it should be fine but lots of modification has to be done on the Merz rear subframe.

I can recommend my friend who owns a workshop in PJ who is currently converting my rear axle for my W201. Most of the parts would be sent to machine shop.

Contact me at 012-290 0670 and we can speak more.

Cheers bro!

dear friends...

just a suggestion from me... if u want to
retain merc rear gears but worried it'll break
under "d force"... use a bigger engine rear
axle... just a thot... since d speed sensor
can be modified...

Bro, not too sure on that coz I have another friend with 1jz also facing the same problem after changing stronger rear axle... Best is to match the axle of the same engine.

Just my 2 cents.

yup,

couldnt agree more.
if u`re converting your 124, go hunt for 500e or 300te
axles/differentials. silap2 nasib baik ada lsd lagi.

for 201 , kena modify sikit coz the length n size of the
drive shafts might differ.needs expert machining.

the torque of the turbos can coz havoc to the diff.

the longer ratio of the diff is bcoz its an auto,
go hunt for a manual diff of d 5 speeders cossie`s for
your 201, siap dgn lsd lagi.

Bro,

My W201 dah half way project tu... I tried looking for cosworth axle tapi memang rare. Cannot find at all so I decided to send my rear subframe and the rear axle from a R32 to the machine shop... plus RB20det axle is strong and if I have to replace again, parts berlambak...

bro Jaybon,

Thanks for the support!

To be frank I'm feel pretty insulted especially this apek say thing like go and die alone and other insulting stuff...

Also I not taking this project to build this car into a bully machine on the road but to solve the diff issue and if know me well, I prefer to cruise the car rather than driving the car about 200km/h coz I don't fancy high speed. Adding to that perhap I might want to join the drift club to learn drifting as a beginner of couse in the drift track... This is my weekend car and I don't intend to use it daily as I have another family car for my daily use.
