Why W124 ?

I dont have one but I think I do know

1 Good car
2 reliable
3 Long Lasting
4 Parts easy to get
5 Getting cheap at the moment
6 Has a lot of features
7 Looks good
8 Easy to persinalise, many after-market accessories
9 always RESPECTED

I didnt buy the W124 cause I really really really wanted a W126 and I enjoy huse cars. Will recomend a W124 anyday and would be the best entry level Benz if you are getting into classics

I have to agree with this. The car is still stunning albeit of its aging factor. Looking at its competitors, they lost their fangs moments new models were introduced.

Agreed!

How cheap is cheap? For a price of a second hand Honda Accord (1991-1992 models) or price of a second hand Kelisa (1987-1989 models) the car is still regarded at high price, hence, it is proven that the depreciation value for this W124 E-class is very stable.

This one I really have to agree! Some features inside the W124 were beyond our expectations. Imagine in 1989 it already comes with climate control, catalytic converter? Mannn feel proud to own one friends!

If one would say that we are driving an old junk, well the old junk is still looking good from time to time compared to other car, where u will start to feel boring after a while driving it.

Re: Why W124?
From the moment i drove my dad's w124, i fell in love with it and intend to get one myself.

very sturdy and surprisingly, fuel consumption is also quite good: about 10km per litre.

relatively cheap maintenance for a german made car.

relatively cheap to buy now, about 30 - 39k for an original masterpiece albeit hard to come by.

love all the features on a e220 masterpiece: cruise control, electric seats, window blinds, nice door sills, comfortable leather seats, pretty looking steering and gear knob, walnut panelling, etc.

though my friends always say that i do not think and act my age, i always tell them that they have not driven a merz before, hence the comments.

road tax is quite affordable compared to a w140.

Suspension not as good as w123 but still good.

with a budget of 40k, i could get a vios and pay loans for 3 years, or a new viva or second hand myvi or the e220 masterpiece.

i think the answer is obvious as to which option i chose.

Right on. Pay cash. With your salary, you pay for the maintenance (which is minimal) and keep some in the bank for the car's 'rainy days' like autobox problems etc...

Girls dig men in classics. Not flashy cars, but kool looking cars. And an MBZ w124, with proper mods to suit yer age, is uber cool. Roll on the Schutz Staffel chariot...

Well said renngrun. One of the reason why I tend to keep it is because the car is still relevant. Before landing myself with this car, I have this habit of changing car at least every 4 years...some even within one year. With this car, somehow, it stay much longer as there is no really compelling reason to change..still a head turner, still serves me pretty well and interestingly, seldom get stop whenever there is a road block. With this car, you can just be yourself...not any wannabe..

No worries about those depreciation, monthly payments..all I need to do, just like you said...save some for those rainy days..

The trick of having this type of car is to have a trusted mechanic. Once you secure this, Insha Allah the car will serve you well.

Dear Jason,

You can also get the E280 because the price is cheaper than E220. If you couldn't find the real masterpiece, go for the 93-95 version E220 or E280 will be fine too and cheaper in price. You will like the power of 6 cylinders when you are on the highway. Fuel consumption of the E280 on the highway is not too bad as well.

I am also looking for the original spec masterpiece but due to price and condition, I settle down with E280 yr 93. Keep in mind, if you find a good condition car with this age, you should be lucky.

Good luck in your search.
