The W123 I just bought needs a replacement of shock absorbers. I came across Bilstein and Sachs, both cost almost the same. Which one will you all recommend? I prefer smooth ride than handling. However, it will be nice if I can get something in between. What was the OEM shocks? thank you.

OEM Bilsteins(black) are not as stiff as its famous brethren(yellow sports)and therefore should give you the ride that you'd like.

The Sachs units more or less share the OEM Bilstein's characteristics.

You pays yer money but the Billies ada 'lebih' nama sikit lah.
( Having said that, be careful and make sure the Billies are the genuine ones. Make sure yer workshop gets the real deal. I was told there are shady practices out there via Taiwan and our market's flooded with fake OEM Billies...)

I may be wrong on this but as far as I know ( and I am very familiar with Bisteins), Bilsteins come only in Yellow (non OEM B6/B8) or Black with blue BAND (OEM fitment). My E320 W210 originally comes and is on black with blue band avantgarde grade (shorter dampers). I'm planning to change the stock ones to B6s yellows and even though it's gunna make the car pretty stiff, I much prefer it to the wallowing sensation on fast sweepers running on standards.

To the OP, the OEM for most modern MBZs are Bilsteins and/or Sachs, depending on the market. On the W123, am not sure but I hazard a guess that it's Billies as well since Bilstein has a sorta partnership with MBZs and Porsches since aeons ago......

About the absorbers i could show you where to get it in Jb and Singapore and for the other two problems I can help you fix if you are aroubd the area.
