This is what I was also told... Why waste money to go for fully synthetic oil when a semi is good enough..?

Besides marketing gimmicks, there must be something special in it compare with 2 types of oil. The definition of good enough is very subjective. As for me, I want the best. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yap |

Re: Engine Oil for M111? saya punya c200k dulu pakai enjin m111 tak silap saya lah. enjin merah kan?
pakai fully sintetik satu of cos lah bagus. dua, tukar minyak itam setiap 10,000 km lah cuba kita kira lagi untung, tak yah selalu g workshop saya pakai shell fully sintetik, kalau pakai semi 2 botol semi sintetik = rm200 (kena beli dua pasal tak silap m111 punya enjin 6 liter minyak itam) oil filter = rm20 upah = rm 30 masa= 1 jam semua rm250 setiap 5000 km rm500 setiap 10,000 km dan 2 jam masa. kalau amik fully sintetik 2 botol fully sintetik = rm400 oil filter= 20 upah rm30 masa = 1 jam so semua ialah rm450 untuk 10,000 km siap jimat sejam lagi masa. (masa itu nyawa!) saya tak taulah mana brand minyak fully sintetik yg bagus. tapi saya tau lagi bagus dari semi sintetik tapi kalau dah mahaguru gan kata minyak toho. tukarlah minyak toho, tukar setiap 100,000 km. mmg dekat duan tahun baru jumpa workshop balik. mmg jimat lah kalau guna semi sintetik 100,000 / 5000 = 20 so rm250 * 20 = rm5000. kalau guna fully sintetik r 100,000 / 10,000 = 10 so rm450 * 10 = rm4500 banyak tu, banding dengan minyak toho enjik gan rm 400 satu liter * 6 liter = rm2400 oil filter = rm30 labor = rm30 so... setiap 100,000 cuma rm 2460 je banyak jimat for long run... tapi sapa ada wang yang banyak macam tu untuk sekali servis kan. haha. betul x mr gan |

Re: Engine Oil for M111? Merz has specification standard for engine oil, i.e.: 229.3, 229.5, etc. for petro engines and 229.31. 229.51, etc. for diesel engines.
Now a day we look at engine oil more than just the viscosity, i.e.: 5W-30. We have to look at the API and ACEA specifications as well. If makan minyak sikit, increase the viscosity, i.e.: 5W-40 or 10W-40. But make sure same Merz specification. API and ACEA will describe the quality of engine oil like how long it can maintain its quality. Follow lah the specified standard for your Merz. If you practice oil change interval of 10k km or more, make sure you use the Merz fleece filter. M111 requires 229.3. Google with Mercedes 229.3 and you should get the list of engine oil that meet this specification. If want the best, go for 229.5 which is the latest Merz standard. Your calculation is correct for semi and fully synthetic oil. In fact, you save more on fully synthetic on other thing such as better protection, better FC, cleaner engine etc... As for engine oil TOHO, seems very expensive. I don't want to let the oil in the engine for loooooog time. 100,000km average 5 years. This could be good for taxi as they travel a lot but most of the taxi driver I talked to they just use the normal mineral oil. Why? Cost factor or something else? Even though the engine oil can last that long but the oil filter should change for every 10,000km, right? Yap |

Re: Engine Oil for M111? all cars can use fully synthetic engine oils.
just change the engine oil as recommended by the manufacturer and the engine will be fine...it is not good to go over the recommended mileage and period. mobil 1 is one of the best engine oil. i've used it back when it was selling at rm90 per 4 litre pack...i won't hesitate to use it again. |
