Hi Jaybon,

Read about this problem you described happening to W210 's as well. Can you show us where to check and what we can do to fix it, so that the harness and ECU are portected.

Thanks
Mark

I think the last batch of W203s were fixed with newly revised cam sensors. That's y my engine looks kinda different. There's no cover over my cam sensors. Also, the fellas in US managed to get MB USA to fix the new revised cam sensors for free.

bro, better check with the specialist and re-confirm..

I still have about 6 months warranty left so no need to stress yet. Hehe. Anyway, next service at C&C I will b sure to ask the mech to check if mine is really the revised cam sensors.

Re: Discovering your W203
1. remote key - can unlock just the driver door or all 4 doors + bonet with one key press only, however with one key press will lock all doors. very useful is always travel alone.

2. remote key - can unlock the door/all doors with fog light simultenously, very useful when in the dark.
(this feature need to activate it on instrument cluster, otherwise wont work)

3. remote key - can open sunroof and wind down all doors remotely, similarly and remotely can close them as well

4. rear fog light - only on the right side when switched on, so don't go to workshop and tell mechanic that the left light bulb sudah terbakar (that's why there is no "malfunction" message appears)

5. side mirror - will tilt/go down when engage in reverse gear and supposedly go back to its original position after reversing

6. seat, side mirrors, rear mirror will go back to its original positions when the driver exits the car
(Rear view mirror goes back its ori position feature depends on which model and which spec. not every has this function)

7. headlamp - can switch off auto for a defined period after the engine is shut off

8. radio/CD - can play even after the key was removed but will switch off auto for ... (i think 30 minutes, forgot already la..)

9. A/C recirculation button - can wind up/down all windows by pressed and hold for approx. 5 seconds.

10.A/C Frt Defroster & Recirculation buttons - By pressing both buttons together aprox. 5 seconds, all A/C air flap stepper motors will normalizing/syncronize.

11. Side Mirror - There are 2 types of side mirror i.e. normal heated aspheric mirror and normal heated aspheric mirror with Auto Glare Control. It is easily differentiated by the size of the black lining, thick black lining is with auto glare control and thin one is without.

------------------------------------------------
Based on my experience with broken side mirror recently, i discovered there are 2 type of side mirrors as follows:

W203 with Auto Glare Control (Thick Black Outer Lining) = RM650/=

W203 WITHOUT Auto Glare Control (Thin Black Outer Lining) = RM265/=

Some W203 are fitted with side mirror without Auto Glare Control on the left and with Auto Glare Control on the right like mine but i have also seen few that without Auo Glare Control on both sides, just a normal heated aspheric mirrors. I guess there are W203 that are fitted with Auto Glare Control on both sides as well. (if not mistaken, these all are same with W211 as well).

Item 1
Quote:

Individual settings
You can change the setting of the locking system in such a way that pressing the UNLOCK button only unlocks the driver's door and the fuel filler flap. This could be useful if you frequently travel on your own.

To change the setting: press the UNLOCK and LOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately six seconds until the battery check lamp flashes twice.

The key now functions as follows:

To unlock the driver's door: press the UNLOCK button once.

To unlock centrally: press the UNLOCK button twice.

To lock centrally: press the LOCK button.

Restoring the factory settings
Press the UNLOCK and LOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately six seconds until the battery check lamp flashes twice.

more detail can be found here:

Item 5 - i think this is available if yours have "memory" seat functions. I have no idea how to set this, other members may advise.

Cheers...

dear friends...

1 more thing to add... plse also check
ur magnetic switches... if it leaks oil,
it will drip on ur wiring harness... making
it brittle... & later flow to ur ecu... &
its cooking time...!!!

was told by a merc specialist it less than 500
to change, but once d ecu fries... well, ur
wallets toast then... :-O

This only happens to the older W203s. They supposedly fixed it for the facelift models.

the facelift models (M271 engine) also suffer the same problem, in fact, is worst as it has 2 magnetic switches and therefore needs to replace/retrofit both.

dear rothman...

thanks for answering bro... u are right
