What are the different classes in Mercedes Benz? This question always pops up in this community.
What are the different classes in Mercedes Benz? Many of the letters of the different Mercedes classes have a historic meaning. Mercedes adopted a new, simpler naming convention for their vehicles a few years ago, so this answer reflects that. The core models S-class: Sonderklasse = Special Class E-class: Executive Class C-class: Comfort Class B-class: no historic meaning, but smaller than a C-class A-class: no historic meaning, but smaller than a B-class G-class: Geländeklasse = Off Road Class (real off road, not an SUV) V-class: historically used to be called Vito, which refers to Vitoria-Gasteiz, the assembling factory in Spain. Easier to remember: V stands for Van. X-class: no historic meaning, but X stands for 4x4 (4 wheel drive) Other letters are sometimes used as a prefix (yes, the prefixes overlap with the core classes, but you’ll get the hang of it soon enough): C: Coupe S: Sport G: Geländewagen = Offroader / SUV L: Leicht = Light (as in lightweight, although you need to take this with a grain of salt) CL: Coupé Leicht = Lightweight Coupe SL: Sport Leicht = Lightweight Sportscar GL: Geländewagen Leicht = Lightweight Offroader / SUV GT: Gran Turismo Now you can build your own Mercedes-class. Isn’t that fun?! Let’s give it a shot: CLA: A-class-based Lightweight Coupe GLE: E-class-based Lightweight SUV (this used to be the ML-class) C Coupé: C-class-based Coupe CLS: S-class-based Lightweight Coupe E Convertible: E-class-based Convertible GLS: S-class-based Lightweight SUV (this used to be the GL-class) New example: SLC: C-class-based Lightweight Sportscar (this used to be the SLK, where K stood for Kurz (meaning “short”) Let’s just say that Mercedes’ naming is not a dyslexic’s best friend. You’ll notice that Mercedes-Benz is rather liberal with the “Leicht” moniker. Obviously none of these cars are really light, but historically, the L did stand for Lightweight. Sometimes the weight of history catches up with us. Enjoy your Benz as much as I do..

Re: What are the different classes in Mercedes Benz? Anyway it's nice to see that Mercedes has again won the F1 Race for the 5th consecutive years starting from 2014.
Congratulation to the Mercedes Team.
