Hi All ,

I am new to this forum. I currently own a w211 E270CDI Year 2004 which has done 360K klms. Runs well and recently overhauled the gearbox.

Please share any good engine tips (preventive maintainance) to ensure it runs better.

Currently during idle ,there is a fair bit of rocking. I have changed the engine mounts but i do not think that fixed the problem.

Bro, nice to meet you.
I am the owner or e220cdi.
You can try to open the engine cover and seek is it any leaking at the injector site. It can cause engine vibration.

I had been 'reading' this forum for some time... have 2 units of w211 e270cdi year 2003 with 160 & 115K km.

u need qualified Bosch diesel injection shop to properly check & rectify any injector related leakage. I found injectors leaking on mine as a result of injectors previously removed from the engine head, but not reinstalled properly. the copper washer, injector sleeve/seat and the bolt holding the injector down must be replaced every time the injector is removed. the qualified bosch diesel shop would be equipped to test the performance of your injectors too.

i had also been advised to change the diesel filter at least once a year with branded replacement. the engine oil should be changed under 6000-7000km if you are not burning euro 4+ fuel.

one question for you: did you have the torque convertor repaired/replaced during the overhaul?

Good luck and enjoy the torque from the diesel engine.

Hi,

One of the injectors (#3) was serviced and the idling is much smoother now. The torque convertor has also overhauled

Chong,

just for info: the injector can only be cleaned (or serviced) but not repaired as no replacement part is available for any of the components inside the injector (per authorized Bosch center). Of course the service center may be able to use 'used' component from another injector if it is available.

Just sharing. Please correct me if i am wrong

Hi ,

I did the diesel injector service in a Bosch authorised center in Klang as they have very extensive testing equipment.

i was fortunate to be had a look while they were servicing the injector. New Parts (OEM) were used as replacements (seals , etc etc) ..

So far so good. Much improved idling. Maybe i should do the rest (4 more to go)

I just solved the mystery on one of my w211 e270 where the transmission wasn't transferring the engine torque adequately to the rear wheels (when compared to the other unit).

before:
-the engine rpm barely drops after every shift of gear
-the engine rev will drop all the way to idle as soon as i release the gas pedal while driving
-the vehicle will gradually slow down while the engine rpm stays the same when going up a hill at moderate gas pedal pressure
-vehicle feels sluggish (slow picking up)
-vehicle feels 'light' when coasting (without stepping on the gas pedal)
-however, rear wheels can easily spin (trigger esp action) in the rain even when the car is on the move if i give it moderate gas pedal pressure. i concluded there is no excessive slippage within the gearbox

I had qualified workshop checked out the car and even let them drove the other w211 e270. they confirmed one car is acting 'abnormally' compared to the other. however, they cannot pin point what exactly is causing it to behave like that as:
-the gearbox can shift with no problem
-the condition does not seems to worsen over the past 1.5 years
-no difference after fluid and filter change
-no error message from transmission control unit

i took it as a challenge: checked the solenoids, replaced all the solenoid o-rings, replaced the conductor plate but still the same. finally, i opened up the valve body and discovered a tiny plastic ball (mb calls it shuttle ball) hiding underneath the torque convertor lockup solenoid inlet. logically, this tiny ball is blocking the atf flow. I couldn't find any information (based on several 722.6 service details) to support the 'existence' of that tiny ball at that location so i removed it. The remaining 8 steel balls & 4 shuttle balls were intact. put everything back carefully and it was like magic.

after:
-the engine rpm will drop noticeably after every shift of gear
-the vehicle can maintain speed better
-vehicle will go through each of the gears and accelerate briskly (dangerously if you drive in an irresponsible manner)
-slightly better fuel efficiency

I tend to believe that tiny ball was added to artificially prevent the torque convertor lockup clutch to operate. The drivers of my car happen to hate the 'slip' feeling. I will not speculate on how that shuttle ball got there.

To all who may be experiencing this sort of condition, this is something worth checking before we go crazy and replace or rebuild the gearbox.

I doubt it. I have only seen 5 w211 CDIs in Sarawak (2 of which r with me ). the other 3 are a e320CDI (champagne metallic sighted in Sibu), e270CDI (red metallic sighted in Bintulu) and a e220CDI (silver metallic sighted in Kuching). other than the engine & transmission parts, i think they share parts with other avantgarde trimmed W211. what are you looking for specifically?

Hi ,

A few things

1. Both Side trimmings for the back Bumper.The clips has broke and now sticking out

2. Gear Knob (as mine is a bit worn down) with stop start button on top

3. Steering Rack for the e270CDI as it is starting to leak steering fluid.
