Engine oil top up
Previously it was about 8,000 over km to refill a liter of engine oil. Recently, it is less than 4,000km. There is no oil sign on the porch. The exhaust pipe showing sign of carbon deposit. Car behave as normal though. There is a engine oil burning odor from the exhaust.

It is likely either worn piston rings or valve seal. I have the the engine cap and coolant. No sign of mixture. What is the usual cost to replace piston rings and valve seal? At least, won't kena potong leher. Tks a lot.

Any leak at cam sensor?

My brother had top overhaul done on his 2004 c200k some time back @ Merbenz Auto (Uk) Sdn Bhd at MRR2 03-4253 4103.
Can call them for estimates.

My brother is offshore now, will be back in about 2 weeks.
Will ask him what exactly done and the cost.
Hopefully he still have the receipts.

The cam sensor were replaced mid last year.

One workshop recommended for top overhaul for below RM4K. He said it is normal for Benz not to emit white smoke.

The other mechanic told me the opposite. He said it is rather normal for an aged engine to show sign of engine oil consumption. He told me to use thicker oil and not 5W 50. Maybe 40 to see how it goes and monitor it.

Suggest that before you spend time and money on your engine, find a competent workshop and get them to do a "Cylinder Leak Down Test". They should be able to quickly determine the type of overhaul you need to do. Then get them to do a detail breakdown cost for each component that may be needed to be replaced or serviced to arrive at the worst case cost. So budget for it.

During the overhaul phase, you may get away with some components just needing service instead of replacements.

The use of single grade engine oil is for very short term only. It may create bigger problems on a fine tolerance modern engine.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for budging in. Have u done your overhaul. If not what engine oil do u use. Do u use synthetics. Try to check the hoses and give the engine a good wash, when cold. Get another mechanic opinion before jumping into conclusions. If power is still good, no overheating, loss of water and alike, then stay a while before making the decision. May be a compression test will help cos money does not fall from the skies! He he he

Just to share some layman term that I picked up..

Complete overhaul- engine taken out n stripped.

Top-overhaul - sump n cylinder head dismantle to give way
in installing new piston rings.engine block still attached to gearbox.

Grind valve- only cylinder head is taken out.

Scoob,

I would go for this option first before trying the other option. It's cheaper...
