Transforming yer 190 to a Cossie eh? Great! Lots of headaches en-route to yer destination but well worth the trouble IMHO.

Good mechanics? Shout out to the Great, Legendary, Awesome, Uber Cool penghulu of Johor - Schenker. He da' man!

Bro Schenker will be able to assist you. The knowledgeable Dr Gan is missing now for the moment. Else he is the other person who can advise you the best.

My humble opinion, if you can find the right person rebuilt to stock and you will enjoy it.

Re: NEED HELP REBUILDING MY 190E
What model is your W201?

Don't want to rain on your parade, but IMO, if you're planning on just sticking the 16V engine in, then you're potentially asking for trouble. It may go like a Cosworth, but it won't brake, handle and ride like one.

And, ideally, you'll want the dog-leg manual gearbox to get the best out of the engine. The 16V thrives on revs!

Your other issues will be the initial expense of sourcing the parts, and thereafter the cost of maintainance. It's not going to be cheap...

My suggestion is to either rebuild your stock engine or source a 2.6 from the W124 260E. Fairly common and much easier. Fit an AMG or Cosworth body kit and you'll have a very nice-looking car. With the 2.6, you'll have to go to match the looks too!

Whatever you decide, good luck on your project.

Re: NEED HELP REBUILDING MY 190E
I'm curious too which 190E model are you having...

Here are some consideration for you to decide..

The M103 is known for oil leaks from the timing cover at the front of the engine. Again, not a difficult repair and one that can occur separately or as part of a head gasket replacement. High mileage M102s and M103s may also require inexpensive replacement of the hydraulic valve lash adjusters (lifters) should they continue to "tick" after oil pressure rises (brief ticking before oil pressure rises is no cause for concern).

Early M102s used a single row timing chain which requires periodic replacement, as failure results in severe engine damage. Later M102s changed to a double row chain which offers a much longer life. The M103 offer long chain life, despite the M103 using a single row chain. A cosmetic issue with many engines is the failure of the coating on the valve covers, particularly the earlier models with a black finish.

The coating is required as the valve covers are a lightweight magnesium alloy. M102 valve covers can also distort resulting in oil leaks from the gasket and late versions of this engine have a plastic oil separator under the valve cover which can become brittle and crack with age. Apart from these issues, the engines themselves are very reliable. So long as regular oil and filter changes have been performed, the engine should be clean internally and an oil pressure of above about 1 bar at hot idle that rises to 3 bar when driving would tend to indicate good mechanical condition.

Most other engine work involves normal maintenance items and ancillary equipment. All models used a "serpentine" poly-vee belt. This belt is long lasting, however the automatic tensioner can fail, usually after being disturbed during belt replacement. The bushes in the associated damper can also wear causing a rattle at the front of the engine. Plastic components in the cooling system (eg. radiator tanks and coolant reservoir) will become brittle with age resulting in eventual failure. If the original plastic thermostat housing is still fitted, it is recommended that a replacement alloy one be fitted. Coolant pumps (water pumps) can fail, usually preceded by coolant leakage. Observance of the temperature gauge can reveal other problems with engine cooling such as thermostats, fan clutches and temperature switches for the fans. Coolant temperature should run between about 85 and 95 degrees centigrade except in very hot ambient conditions or when stationary (such as in heavy traffic) when temperatures of up to about 105 degrees are considered normal.

i have the stock engine the 2litre fuel injected engine ... but people say that the v6 is not that fuel consumption friendly ...

cuz u know contin cars are quiet expensive ... n if going down the road problem happens if i dont find the right mechanic .. damnn im into alot of trouble later ...

im still in a dilema n confusion whether to just rebuild the engine or swap a 1jz in it ...

PROS AND CONS ANYONE PLS !!

dun wurry its for personal i dont hv the intention of selling the car .. to much sentimental value ..

cause having a 1jz .. u get the power .. a new engine .. better source for parts , cheaper , and many people can fix it .. where else the merc ... haih need to find proper people to do it ...

i know having a 1jz .. has its cons ... but im still open for suggestion ..

i like the 190e drive .. its just awesome .. the car is fantastic to me ... i just need that power ... a friend of mine suggestion fitting in a DCOE 40 weber on the car ...

Bro,

There is a lot of thread in the forum that discussed the Pros and Cons between rebuild the engine or swap a 1jz in it ...

My advice is to keep it standard.

All the best to your project.

I will always go for cosworth. Worth it.. But u need all complete parts until your axle gbox and propeller shaft.. If u do total cosworth trasplant it shouldnt create hassle. But u can no longer use the sls shocks.
Most of buddies using cosworth had problems
In the fuel mgmt system. U need to upgrade to efi using megasquirt and your problem basically solved and low maintenance

a word of caution if u decide the cossie transplant,

get a righthand drive donor engine.
kalau tak, the banana needs a lot of modifying
to clear the steering box.
n yes megasquirt ur car n save a lot of headache.
mine touch wood, belum bagi problem, kalau
kaput, baru le nak megasquirt, coz its not cheap.

get the ori drivetrain with lsd n u love ur
ride more than anything else.better than my
newly acquired w203(no offence to the w203 owners)

a few weeks back tru our buy n sell section theres a guy
whose selling the engine + gbox.(5speed dogleg)

happy hunting.

I missed this thread somehow
In my opinion , forget the 1JZ and the dossie,, if I were you I would just plonk in a M103 260E engine with a gearbox from a W140 722.4. No need to cut and weld and make a mess of what the Germans has done.

I am in Indahpura Kulai and can assist you anytime, just give me a buzz 0167376818
