Searched but couldnt fine what I expected. So.. I guess. .better to list down my queries:

1)Is it true that 2nd hand/recond for japans specs car value is higher than local and UK specs?

2)Is it true that local specs has the lowest performance in terms of power..comfort , stability and driving pleasure compared to UK and japan specs?

2. ) NO


Across the board, for ANY car, when you order from the land of manufacture, you can have options included for a price. In JP, they don't locally assemble their MBZ or any other foreign cars. Thus the importer takes orders based on customer's wishes and in most cases the Japs will spec almost EVERYTHING available in the options list !!!

The UK fellas are more prudent. They don't unnecessarily spec the cars that will balloon the price by up to 30% over... So...most times, the UK cars that got imported in to MY by our used car importers tend to be underspecced compared to JP ones....

Local assembly have the C&C previously or DCM MY's Board of er...Directors approve the spec that's to be applied here. Also to include some 'local content' to bring down the excise duties etc.... These local content are normally in the non-structural plastics/rubbers or seats whatever. But the engines and drivetrain are not compromised...

Note : Just got to any 'fancy car' showrooms, you'll see the other fancier cars imported used from JP having all sorts of options. The UK ones ada yang full options and ada yang bare-bones as well.....

The world car market is dictated basically by :

1. US market (funny regulations with side markers, run on 89-92RON and a HIGHER ride height)

2. EU Spec. Best. The real deal as designed by the manufacturers.

3. UK spec (RHD). JP Spec used to be totally different cuz they have emissions compliant but nowadays all cars must have cats..so UK/JP spec are the same except for meter markings in Kilometres.

4. Gulf Specs (Pak Arab). Like US Spec but ROW/EU RON rating

5. Australian Specs (RHD). Australia's ADR (Australian Design Rules) got some funny laws on ride height etc....

Hi mugenseiki,

I guess you have no worry on the AP and duty for the "Local" model.

Have you heard about few imported cars sharing one AP, duty not pay or only paid partially and then custom knock your door? Is this just a story or "kisah benar"?

From the cars that I've seen, JP recon cars are usually have very low mileage and the cars are usually in very good condition. I guess in Japan cars are usually used in conjunction with their trains and subway.

Even with W124's from 1995, when you look at a Japanese half cut the Odometer mileage is less that 100,000km and the carpets are still in very good condition.

JP spec W221 , the clock is always one hour ahead. Cannot reset coz no dials or buttons. It is reset via satellite.
